It's been 4 years... I think it's time to learn Korean

Postby gregsamborski6164 » September 1st, 2010 7:20 am

Hello Korean learning community, my name is Greg. I'm getting sick of using 감사합니다 and 좋아요 so I've come to learn more. I have an amazing Korean wife, baby and in laws here and I'd really like to be able to talk to my in laws. Furthermore, I don't want to always have to rely on others to communicate for me. So here goes, time to get cracking.

Here's where the 4 years spent procrastinating on learning Korean went.

Woot! yeah, it's about time Greg!

4 years not wasted, you probably learned more than you think during that time. As you must have already realized, the key to effective learning is simply exposure and effort. When it comes to language there are great learning programs and poor ones, but there is no 'magic bullet' to substitute for effort.

My recommendation is at least 2 hours a day of study and practice: 1 hour of 'enjoyable' media input -- drama/movies/music etc., and 1 hour of practice drills -- i.e. conversational sentences and vocabulary. Then get as much actual conversation as you can find.
