Thank you for posting. There are two meanings for 있다:

1. to have

2. to be

So 갖고 있다 would literally mean (to be (while) holding something), or 'having something'.

Actually, 없읍니다 used to be the correct spelling until they changed it to 없습니다 in 1989. :smile:
