| Junsu: Well, I stayed at Malaysia and Singapore and Indonesia and a couple of places in Europe. |

| Junsu: Nope. I haven’t been there. |
| Hyunwoo: 네, 꼭 가 보세요. 정말 좋아요. |
| Mihyeon: 현우씨는요? |
| Hyunwoo: 저요? Where have I traveled? Well I’ve been to Europe twice for traveling and I have been to Japan twice for traveling and I have been to China twice for traveling. Well that’s a lot. 그런데 오래 못 있었어요. I couldn’t stay in one place for a long time. I only stayed for like two months maximum. That was a really good experience for me. Well anyway, when you travel overseas 해외여행을 할 때 기념품을 많이 사 오세요? |
| Junsu: Souvenirs nah I don’t buy any. |
| Hyunwoo: Really 진짜요? |
| Mihyeon: 저도요. 저도 잘 안 사요. |
| Junsu: Yeah I only buy meaningful things like chocolates. |
| Mihyeon: 저는 그냥 안 사요. |
| Hyunwoo: You don’t even buy meaningful things either but I am not sure if chocolates are meaningful things but any way, I mean in particular but yeah 기념품 안 사요? 전혀? |
| Junsu: I guess sometimes if they are really pretty. |
| Hyunwoo: Okay I see but you know, in many cases 많은 경우에 있어서 기념품은 나를 위해서 사는 것이 아니라 기념품 is not for yourself but for friends and family right? |
| Mihyeon: 네, 맞아요. 근데 친구들이 많잖아요. 누구한테는 주고 누구한테는 안 주고 그렇게 할 수 없어서 그냥 안 사요. |
| Hyunwoo: Well that’s smart. |
| Mihyeon: 똑똑하죠? |
| Hyunwoo: Yeah you can call it smart or just careless I don’t know. I just…. |
| Mihyeon: Careless...what? |
| Hyunwoo: 그런데 you can’t buy souvenirs for everyone. So you just choose not to buy anything for anybody 좋아요 그런데 but in this dialogue, the man seems to be a nicer person than Mihyeon. He is agreeing to buy souvenirs for his son. |
| Junsu: Oh don’t be so mean, she will buy souvenirs too someday, which is when she has a son, maybe. |
| Hyunwoo: I hope so. |

| Hyunwoo: Oh now that's an obligation. Well anyway, let’s get into today’s dialogue. Today we have a continued dialogue from the last lesson, our first lesson in this lower intermediate series and what happened in the last conversation Mihyeon? |
| Mihyeon: 아내가 남편한테 친구를 만나려고 한다고 이야기했는데 남편이 그래 잘 만나고 오라고 이야기했어요. |
| Hyunwoo: 네, 맞아요. If you remember, we learned how to say, you are about to do something, you are planning to do something which is |
| Junsu: 려고 하다. |
| Hyunwoo: Yes and in today’s dialogue, what are they talking about? |
| Mihyeon: 오늘은 남편이 출장을 가는 이야기예요. |
| Hyunwoo: What is 출장? |
| Junsu: 출장 means business trip. So in this conversation, the husband is talking about going on a business trip and the wife mentions some souvenirs for her son. |
| Hyunwoo: So Junsu what are we going to learn today? |
| Junsu: We are going to learn about how to say you think you are going to do something or you think something is going to happen. So it means something that you are not 100% sure of. |
| Hyunwoo: Okay. Let’s listen in. |

| (2)여보: 네, 맛있었어요. 고마워요. |
| (3)남편: 괜찮아. 여보, 나 다음 달에 출장 갈 것 같아. |

| Junsu: Yeah it means you think you are going to do something or you think something is going to happen. Something that you are not 100% sure of. |
| Hyunwoo: That’s right and that’s why this grammar pattern is often used together with the word 아마 maybe, probably. So Junsu how is this grammar pattern used? How is it constructed? |
| Junsu: You take the verb stem and add ㄹ 것 같다 or 을 것 같다 depending on whether the verb stem ends in a consonant or a vowel. |
| Hyunwoo: Yeah it’s very simple. So how was it used in today’s dialogue Mihyeon? |
| Mihyeon: 남편이 이야기했어요. 나 다음 달에 출장 갈 것 같아. |
| Junsu: The husband told the wife, I think I am going to go on a business trip next month. |
| Mihyeon: 캐나다로 갈 것 같아. |
| Junsu: I think I am going to go to Canada. |
| Mihyeon: 1주일 정도 갈 것 같아. |
| Junsu: I think it’s going to be for a week. |
| Hyunwoo: Yeah this is very useful and Koreans tend to use this 같다 very often like almost every day, several times a day and when you are talking about the future and you are not sure, you don’t want to be too sure about what you are going to do or something that’s going to take place, you can use this grammar pattern. So Mihyeon, could you give us some more examples? |
| Mihyeon: 나 다음 달에 결혼할 것 같아. |
| Hyunwoo: Well she doesn’t sound too happy about it but what does it mean? |
| Junsu: I think I am going to get married next month. |
| Hyunwoo: Too bad but actually I should say 축하합니다 congratulations but she didn’t sound too happy and another example |
| Mihyeon: 나 머리가 터질 것 같아. |
| Junsu: I think my head is going to explode. |
| Hyunwoo: Why? |
| Mihyeon: 아, 그냥 예문이에요. 머리 아플 때 자주 이렇게 말해요. |
| Junsu: No I think it’s because she has to get married soon. |
| Hyunwoo: Yeah that makes sense. 말 되네요. Could you give us one more example? |
| Mihyeon: 나 그 오빠 다시 만날 것 같아. |
| Junsu: Wait! I don’t want to translate this. Okay she said, I think I am going to meet him again. |
| Hyunwoo: Okay, they are just sample sentences but you think you are going to get married next month and you think your head is going to explode and you think you are going to meet him – like him, someone else again. Okay not very educational. |
| Mihyeon: 그냥 예문이에요. |
