Hi everyone! I’m Alisha.
Welcome to Conversational Phrases!
We’ve found that the best way to learn a language is to speak it from day one! And the best way to start speaking is to learn phrases that you’ll use in real conversations.
In this lesson, you’ll learn how to ask the question, "When is your birthday?" After watching this video, you’ll be able to ask and answer about the date of an event.
Now, let’s take a look at some conversational phrases!
Listen to the dialogue.
생일이 언제예요? (Saengiri eonjeyeyo?)
3월 4일이에요. (Samwol sairieyo.)
Once more with the English translation.
생일이 언제예요? (Saengiri eonjeyeyo?)
“When is your birthday?”
3월 4일이에요. (Samwol sairieyo.)
“It's on March 4th.”
First of all you'll need to learn how to say "When is [event]?"
The pattern is:
[event]이/가 언제예요? ([event]i/ga eonjejeyo?)
This Korean sentence translates as "[event]is when?" But it means “When is [event]?”.
For example:
생일이 언제예요?, 생일이 언제예요? (Saengiri eonjeyeyo?, Saengiri eonjeyeyo?)
Now, how do you answer this question?
3월 4일이에요. (Samwol sairieyo.)
Listen to it again:
3월 4일이에요., 3월 4일이에요. (Samwol sairieyo., Samwol sairieyo.)
This Korean sentence literally translates as "March 4th it's." But it means "It's on March 4th.".
