yes... it might surprise students of Korean language to know that the first Hangul dictionary was not published until 1957...
This does not mean that there were no Korean reference books, but the bulk of these were written in Chinese until the turn of the last century. And the first Korean (Hangul) dictionary was not published until after the Korean war.
